Body Language: I Know What You’re Thinking!
Abstract
The presenters, Tonia D. Aiken, RN JD, and Diane T. Warlick, RN JD, founders/co-owners of Nurse Attorney Institute, LLC will share key elements for success in reading, understanding, and using body language and facial expressions. This presentation is designed for nurses who are starting a business or currently running their own business. The course content will include information on body language, facial expressions, power plays/positions, and how to effectively read and use various techniques to get what you want or discover what your client or rival is really thinking.
Biography
Tonia D. Aiken, RN BSN JD, is president and co-owner of Nurse Attorney Institute, LLC, along with Diane T. Warlick, RN JD. Their company provides education and consultation services to healthcare providers. They have created a legal nurse consulting program with Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing. Aiken has extensive experience in medical malpractice litigation, healthcare issues, and in representing nurses in disciplinary matters and licensure issues. She is a past president of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA) and the Foundation. Aiken is a nationally recognized author, speaker, educator, facilitator, mediator, adjunct professor, and consultant.
Diane Warlick, RN JD, is a nurse attorney with more than 25 years experience in nursing law, medical malpractice litigation, and appellate law practice. A conflict with a physician over an order which violated hospital regulations drove her to law school to make some sense of the legal and ethical boundaries of nursing practice. Since graduating from Boston University School of Law, Warlick has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in malpractice litigation, health care providers in regulatory and disciplinary actions, and served on a board of nurse licensure as a consultant for development of disciplinary standards and procedures. She was a founder and the second president of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA) and represented TAANA the American Nurses Association as amicus curiae before the United States Supreme Court.
